Spain and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta announces international retirement after Russia defeat
Andres Iniesta has announced his retirement from international football after Spain loss to Russia, the host nation, on penalties at the world cup.
Iniesta was Spain’s hero in the 2010 World Cup having scored the goal that won them the trophy in South Africa.
Iniesta didn’t start the match against Russia but was fielded in the second half of the game after the scoreline was leveled at 1-1.
Russia broke the heart of the Spaniard after beating them on penalties to book a potion in the quarterfinals of the competition.
Russia will go ahead to play Croatia in the quarterfinals in a match promising to be intense.
The 34-year-old Spaniard announced his exit from the club of his youth, Barcelona before the end of the 2017/2018 season and he has signed for Japanese club Vissel Kobe where he’ll feature in the 2018/2019 football season.
